Collection: Dahlia Cuttings

Policy for Varieties Awaiting Confirmation (cuttings only)

We take variety confirmation seriously. For any varieties labeled as "unconfirmed" (meaning the mother plant has not yet bloomed true-to-type on our farm), we offer the following guarantee:

Our Guarantee: If the mother plants we grew are definitively not the variety we have advertised, we will contact you and offer you a full refund or a replacement cutting (of the correct variety or comparable value, based on availability).

Our Confirmation Process and Shipping Timeline:

We are making every effort to confirm these varieties as early as possible. Our process includes accelerated testing by growing the mother plants in a heated grow tent during the winter and planting them out early in the spring.

To ensure you receive the correct plant, we may delay shipping until we can visually confirm the bloom. However, we will always balance this with the need to ship your tubers in time for you to successfully grow them into productive plants and produce tubers for the winter.

⚠️ Important Note on Tuber Production from Cuttings

We are excited for you to grow these vigorous dahlias from our rooted cuttings! While cuttings offer a fantastic way to acquire elusive varieties and get a strong, early start, it's important to set realistic expectations for your fall tuber harvest.

  • First-Year Focus: A dahlia grown from a cutting directs most of its energy into producing a healthy plant and abundant blooms during its first season.
  • Smaller Harvest: Consequently, you should expect a smaller, less numerous clump of tubers (sometimes none!) at the end of the first growing year compared to starting with a mature tuber.
  • The Payoff is Year Two: Don't worry! The tubers you harvest from your cutting this fall will be fully mature and ready to plant next spring. When planted, these second-generation tubers will produce a much larger and more established plant, resulting in a substantial, plentiful tuber clump for the years to follow.

In summary: Enjoy the amazing blooms this year! Your cutting is a smart investment that will yield much larger tuber harvests starting in its second season.

Note: If your cuttings did not produce any tubers at all, check the Help Centre (link below) for additional information on how to save the roots to be planted next year.
