Sweet Sanne was introduced in 2014/2015 in the Netherlands (Named by Dicky Schipper).

Characteristics:

Form: Decorative: Described variably as Formal Decorative (FD) or Informal Decorative (ID), its petals are full and plush, creating a dense, rounded bloom. The form lends itself well to elegant bouquets.

Colour: Shifting Pastel Blend: The color is the dahlia's most enchanting feature, beginning as a soft apricot or peach-pink blend and then subtly changing as the flower ages:

  • Initial: Soft Peach-Pink with Apricot or Coral undertones.
  • Center: Often features a contrasting hint of Lilac, Plum, or Mauve towards the center.
  • Aging: The plum/lilac tones may fade to a delicate Lilac Glow or blush-pink over time.
  • Contrasting Stems: The soft bloom color is beautifully enhanced by the plant's dark, sturdy stems and often dark green/chocolate foliage, which makes the flowers "stand out" and provides depth in arrangements.

Bloom Size: Small to Miniature (BB/M): Flowers are an excellent medium size for cutting, typically measuring 3 to 4 inches ( cm to cm) in diameter.

Height: Medium-to-Tall: The plant is robust and upright, generally growing to a height of 3.5 to 4 feet ( m to m).

Performance:

  • Excellent Cut Flower: 'Sweet Sanne' is highly valued by florists for its elegant color, reliable stems, and good vase life, often lasting longer than many other decorative types.
  • Abundant and Consistent: This is a very productive and free-blooming variety, continuously producing flowers on strong stems from mid-summer until the first hard frost. Regular cutting or deadheading encourages even more blooms.
  • Versatile: Its gentle, romantic color palette makes it versatile for a range of uses, from serene garden borders to romantic, pastel, or autumnal floral displays.
