Night Butterfly Dahlia is a striking collarette variety adored for its velvety contrast and pollinator-friendly form.

Characteristics:

Form: Collarette (CO)—This form features a single outer ring of large, flat petals (ray florets) surrounding a dense central disc. An additional inner ring, or "collar," of small, ruffled or rolled petals sits between the outer petals and the central disc. This open-centered form is excellent for pollinators.

Color: Bi-color (BI) / Red and White—The bloom presents a dramatic contrast:

  • Outer Petals: Velvety, deep dark red, often described as ruby red or near-black.
  • Collar: A ring of small, ruffled petals that are typically white or white with variable red/dark stripes.
  • Center Disc: Bright golden yellow (open center).

Bloom Size: Small (BB) / Miniature (M)—Blooms are typically small, measuring 3 to 4.5 inches (7–11 cm) in diameter.

Height: Medium to Tall, generally ranging from 3 to 4 feet (90–120 cm).

Performance: A prolific bloomer from mid-summer until frost. It is highly valued as a long-lasting cut flower and is particularly favored for pollinator gardens due to its open center. The upright habit and medium height make it suitable for borders and containers.
