Ferncliff Spice was hybridized by David Jack of Ferncliff Gardens (Canada) and introduced in 2013.
Characteristics:
Form: Miniature Ball (MB). It has the classic, perfectly spherical shape of a ball dahlia, but on the smaller end of the size scale.
Color: Yellow (Y) with Burgundy/Cranberry Accents. The blooms are a rich, warm, golden yellow to dark golden yellow. Crucially, the center and sometimes the tips of the inner petals are brushed with a contrasting plum, rose, burgundy, or cinnamon-brown colour, giving it its "spice" name.
Bloom Size: Miniature Ball (MB), typically 2 to 3.5 inches (5–9 cm) in diameter. It is excellent for tucking into bouquets.
Height: Medium, usually between 3.5 to 4 feet (105–120 cm).
Performance: Highly regarded as an excellent cut flower with a high production rate of blooms and tubers. Its sturdy stems and distinctive colour make it a favourite for autumn arrangements.
