Ferncliff Doris is bred by Ferncliff Gardens in British Columbia, this variety is celebrated for its long stems, prolific flowering, and graceful presence—perfect for cutting gardens, pastel borders, and ethereal floral compositions.
Characteristics:
Form: Formal Decorative (FD). This form features ray florets that are generally flat, broad, and smooth, arranged regularly, giving the bloom a neat and tidy appearance. The petals are often described as having a very tight formation.
Color: Cool Lavender-Purple. The colour is a desirable soft, cool lavender-purple or soft lavender. This serene tone makes it very versatile for use in mixed bouquets.
Bloom Size: Small (BB), typically 4 to 4.5 inches (10–11.5 cm) in diameter. The official ADS size classification is likely BB-Small (4"–6").
Height: Tall, reaching heights of 4 to 5 feet (120–150 cm). Its height and sturdy stems make it a reliable cut flower.
Performance: Considered an extremely productive variety, yielding tons of blooms on long, strong stems. Its excellent cutting qualities and reliable growth habit make it a favourite for flower farmers. It is also often one of the first dahlias to bloom in the field.
