Hilltop Glow is hybridized by Buddy Dean of Hilltop Gardens in North Carolina, USA, and introduced around 2008.
Characteristics:
Form: Formal Decorative (FD). Fully double blooms with symmetrical, gently curved petals. The shape is classic and balanced, offering a polished silhouette with a painterly finish.
Color: Light Blend (LB) of Pink, Lavender, and White/Cream. This is where the dahlia truly "glows":
- The petals are a pale, icy pink or bone china white near the center.
- They transition outward to a soft lavender or pinkish-lavender.
- The tips are often sharply defined with a deeper purple or violet edge, creating a striking, hand-dipped effect.
Bloom Size: Small (BB), typically measuring 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 cm) in diameter.
- ADS Classification: 3010 (BB - Small size, FD - Formal Decorative, LB - Light Blend).
Height: A robust plant, growing to about 3 to 5 feet (90–150 cm) tall.
Performance:
Cut Flower Quality: 'Hilltop Glo' is an absolute bouquet staple and top-tier cut flower. It is highly valued for its:
- Long, strong stems that hold the glowing blooms upright.
- Phenomenal productivity, pumping out blooms all season.
- Excellent vase life.
Heat Tolerance: Having been hybridized in the Southern United States, it is known for thriving in warmer, hotter climates where some dahlias struggle, making it a reliable performer in many regions.
Tuber Production: Growers consistently report that it is an abundant tuber producer, making it easy to overwinter and expand your stock.
